Weimaraner Rescues in Texas

There are currently two operational Weimaraner rescues in Texas.

Weimaraner Rescue Texas, Inc.

Weimaraner Rescue Texas, Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization established in 1989 in Dallas, Texas. It was granted the 501(c)(3) organization status in 1997. It’s run entirely by volunteers and from its start they have rescued over 2,600 Weimaraners.

Apart from adopting a dog from the rescue, you can also volunteer to foster or help with events and running of the rescue.

Adoption Application Process

The adoption process is fairly easy, you can apply to adopt one of the Weims up for adoption or submit your application for other dogs in the future just in case the available ones aren’t the right fit for you.

The adoption process is done through Petstablished. Once you click ‘Adopt’, you will need to fill out your contact information in the first step and in the second step fill out a questionnare about where you live, how many members of your household there are, how many pets you have (or had), etc.

All this information will help the rescue volunteers with choosing the best fit for their Weimaraners.

Within two days of submitting your adoption application you will be contacted by a volunteer. If you’re renting your property, you will need a copy of a lease agreement or a written permission from the landlord that allows you to own a large dog on the property.

If the adoption is successful, the adoption fee is paid on the day of adoption. You can pay by cash, check or PayPal.

Blue Angel Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc.

Blue Angle Weimaraner Rescue of Texas, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers based in Burleson, Texas.

While they focus on rescuing stray, sheltered, abused or surrendered Weimaraners, you can find other breeds in their rescue as well. All dogs rescued by Blue Angel go to their foster homes as soon as possible.

Apart from adoption, you can also apply to be a foster for these sweet pups.

Adoption Application Process

If you find a Weimaraner you’d like to adopt from Blue Angel Weimaraner Rescue (BAWR), you will need to fill out an application form (here).

There are standard fields for contact information and then there are thorough questions about your life, your job, your household and more.

If you’re renting your property, you will need a written and signed permission from your landlord to have a large dog.

You will be asked to provide a contact of three people, that don’t live with you and aren’t family. The volunteers at BAWR may contact them as a part of the applicant screening process.

Weimaraners are never placed in the first family that wants to adopt them. BAWR carefully selects the best family based on the dog’s unique needs. The BAWR volunteers may visit the home of the applicant to make sure they are the best fit for the dog.

Potential adopters can visit the dog at their foster home but it must be cleared with the adoption coordinator.

Adoption Costs

The cost of adoption depends on the age of the dog.

If it’s a young puppy that hasn’t been spayed/neutered, the applicant must pay a $200 refundable deposit. The adoption will fully go through once the pup has been spayed/neutered.

BAWR accepts cash, check or PayPal.

I’ve always loved dogs, ever since I was a child, but I wasn’t allowed to have one. I dog-sit my sister's Weimaraner often. I decided to start this blog and share what I’ve learned about Nelly, the Weimaraner breed, and dogs in general from scientific papers and journals and my own personal experience.
