DC Area Weimaraner Rescue

DC Area Weimaraner Rescue (DAWR) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization based on foster families. Besides Weimaraners, the rescue also accepts Weimaraner mixes.

The rescue serves the DC area, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, so if you live in these states, make sure to check DAWR out.

If you’d like to help out the rescue, you can do so in different ways. You can donate via Paypal – you can choose whether you’d like to donate one-time amount or whether you want it to be a recurring monthly payment.

DAWR has a shop with t-shirts, masks, calendars, mugs, keychains, books and many other products. They have free shipping for continental US. Purchasing anything from the shop goes directly to the rescue to make sure all Weims are healthy and taken care of. You can also donate items to the shop to be sold.

The rescue can also be supported by shopping with Amazon Smile – Amazon will donate 0.5% of elligible purchases to the rescue of your choice.

If you’d like a more hands-on approach, DAWR is always looking for volunteers – especially foster families but I’m sure they will appreciate any help they can get. Make sure to use the contact form at the homepage and the rescue workers will get in touch with you.

If you found yourself in a very difficult situation and you had to make the hard decision to rehome your Weim, the rescue accepts surrendered dogs as well. Contact the rescue and they will discuss your options with you.

Adoption Application Process

The rescue posts dogs available for adoption on their website and their social media, so keep an eye on both!

You will need to contact the rescue first if you’re interested in adopting a Weimaraner. The volunteers at the rescue will require information about yourself, your family and home, any past and present pets, veterinary reference and permission from your landlord if you’re renting your house/apartment.

They will perform a house visit to make sure your home is suitable for a Weimaraner. They will either suggest a dog that best fits your family or you will be added to the waiting list for the perfect Weim just for you.

Adoption Costs

Weimaraner’s AgeAdoption Cost
